Café Bless International is a Scottish charity that works and partners with communities in the Philippines and Ethiopia.
We currently work in the Philippines and in Ethiopia (countries shaded in blue).
What we do in the Philippines
• We have a child school sponsorship program that sponsors 21 children to go to school, which fully equips children with everything they need to go to school. Books, pencils, uniforms, fee payments, laundry soap, encouragement, we support the students 100%.
• We offer college scholarships to individuals who have a passion to work in and develop their community. We supported our Philippines coordinator to complete her studies in Midwifery and she now works in the community where she grew up, managing our programs there. We are currently supporting a young man, through college to become a teacher, once he has completed his studies he will work within his community and reach other remote areas with education in partnership with Café Bless.
• We have a baby feeding program that helps malnourished infants become healthy through the distribution of milk and food supplies. We also supply mothers in need with blankets, vitamins, sanitary supplies etc. during and after pregnancy. • We have partnered with our Philippines coordinator and her family, in pioneering a rice growing project. Once this project is running at its maximum capacity we expect it will cover a large percentage, if not all of the cost of our Filipino programs. Within the next 5 years we aim to offer other local families small loans and grants to start their own rice fields, in order to create sustainable family incomes.

In the south of Ethiopia we have partnered with a local Ethiopian family and together we are opening a school. So far we have around 90 children coming everyday and we split these children into two groups. We are hoping to add a kindergarten area so we can accepted younger children so that they can be in a safe environment while their parents are out working as daily labourers.
At the moment we have a director, two teachers, a cook and cleaner that we support to work at the school, however, we are looking to source more staff when the funds become available. Currently, a basic school is being built so our partners can attain an official school license in Ethiopia.
The children come from extremely poor families and food is often in scarce supply, therefore, to ensure children are able to learn efficiently they are given a meal before classes begin in the morning. In order to combat the health and wellbeing problems that families face we also work directly with families and meet with parents regularly. We teach them about healthy lifestyles, how to encourage their children in education and how to grow food on the land around their homes.
